Ted Hope Live On Fox Business Network: Is Indie Film Dead?

I never did get to my 38 Reasons but I did get one good answer in.  Peter Guber got my questions (but man, is he GOOD!  He answered the challenges questions better than I could of) and Marina kept getting my other questions.  I did get to give props to Lance Hammer but he was only the first of at least ten people I wanted to mention!  I have to admit though it was a lot of fun.  Many thanks to Reed Martin for getting me on the show (read/buy his book now!).

Guber always has that silver tongue! This was a brief, yet informative, discussion on the state of independent film. Thank you.

Side note: You have continually touted the importance of each and every indie film having a blog. I think I've read about it each time I've visited here in the past few months. However, I could never readily find ADVENTURELAND's blog. Was there a blog? Or is this not considered an indie film?

Best,
Jeremy M. Goldstein

You are right Jeremy! I wasn't able to directly blog on A-land but I did do it indirectly right here and over at TheseAreThoseThings.blogspot.com. These are my efforts at a "consistent dialogue".
Having a distributor aboard A-land from the very beginning was a blessing, but it was also limiting in that they very much want to control the message that is going out.
A-land was 50% private equity, 50% studio. It certainly was indie in spirit and very much the director's vision 100%, but we did make it with all the distributors in place.

It's nice to hear Peter Guber so optimistic and also respectful of the demands of the audience at the end. He manages to put it in very human terms. The demand is there. The supply is there. It's just the middlemen who have to work out their shit to connect them. That's a pretty simple and accurate assessment. He always dominates the conversation, but he's pretty damn savvy about the business. The guy must sleep like two hours a week.

I guess the point of this blog is to remove the middlemen as much as possible, but, at the very least, some one has to sort through all the shit out there.

Re Jeremy's comment, I'll point out that Greg Mottola, the director, kept up a pretty good Twitter stream during the release.

This is a whole naysaying racket, Indy film is the new Hollywood. All you have to do is look at your local film community, every area has them, and they have followings.

Ted, you looked great, much more like a producer than Peter Guber. I think you need your own web show.
